Hardware and software recommendations: introduction

Please take a moment to review these requirements in order to ensure that you will be able to use all features offered by MediaStore. While it is not unlikely that your system will fulfill these requirements already, it is beneficial to clarify these details in advance, so as not to disrupt your work later.

Please refer to your network and/or system administrator if you are in doubt whether your system fulfills these requirements.

In addition, please see our list of network requirements.

Hardware and operating system

We recommend using a computer with the following properties:

  • A recent PC or Mac, ideally with a dedicated graphics chip/card
  • A current operating system with the latest updates installed, such as:
    • Windows Vista or later
      • Please note that Windows XP and previous may function but are not fully supported.
    • Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or later

Web browser

A common web browser updated to the latest version should be used, such as:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
    • Please note that Internet Explorer 7 and previous are not supported.

Web browser plugins

The latest version of Java is required only for multi-file download (via Carts) and master file upload:

  • Check if you have Java installed: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
  • If you don’t have it, install Java directly: http://www.java.com/en/download/
    • In Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and earlier (not recommended), Java is updated exclusively via Software Update: Apple icon (top left) > Software Update (to check your version of OS X: Apple icon > About this Mac)
  • In up-to-date versions of Windows and Mac OS X, please adjust your Java security settings:
    1. Open the Java Control Panel or Configure Java
    2. Open the Security tab
    3. Reducing the Security setting to the lowest available value (e.g. High)
    4. Tick Enable Java content in the browser if this is not enabled
    5. In the Exception Site List, click Edit Site List and add the URL of the platform you are using, e.g. “https://www.mycompany.com”
  • Please also ensure that JavaScript is enabled in your web browser: http://enable-javascript.com/
  • The best browser to use with Java is Firefox
    • Chrome has phased out support for Java (unless a more elaborate workaround is used: https://java.com/en/download/faq/chrome.xml)
    • Safari may not grant sufficient access to your local hard disk in order to save any files
If you are using Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 11 and are reluctant to use a different web browser, please ensure that Flash is installed and enabled in your browser: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
